When the word ‘digital’ first starting blooming, it pounded its way through Adland and was the concept a plethora of agencies built their whole being on. However, Darren Spiller, chief creative officer at DDB Group, believes the word ‘digital’ is a terrible thing to have happened to the industry.

Last year, I attended the Berlin School of Creative Leadership. It offers an executive MBA with an emphasis on using creativity and innovation to solve business problems. I think that’s a big shift. We must start to apply our creativity to business solutions as well as to brand communication. At DDB Melbourne, I have been given a joint management role across all of our business units in a move designed to ensure that creativity is applied at all levels of the group.


mUmbrella, 23 April 

DDB Group Melbourne has completed its acquisition of youth-focussed agency Lifelounge in an effort to boosts its youth and millennial skill set. Mumbrella revealed the acquisition in March with Lifelounge co-founder Dion Appel taking over the MD role for DDB Melbourne from Lorenzo Bresciani, who departed to launch his own specialist brand consultancy.

DDB Group Melbourne has announced the appointment of Dion Appel into the role of managing director, DDB Melbourne, as the Group also confirms the acquisition of Appel’s Lifelounge Agency.

DDB Group Australia has announced a re-structure of its high profile Melbourne office.

Incumbent RAPP Melbourne MD, Dave Brown and DDB Melbourne’s multi-award winning chief creative officer, Darren Spiller will now be partnering in the agency’s top job in a move that places creativity at the heart of the business.
